I read with Amusement, the article in PHOENIX nagazine, by Giants, about
REPOMAN and his so called Fixes. The Article put across to me, that this
guy ( the article writer ) actually likes this sort of shit, and indeed,
does not have the basic knowledge of how to use Killaga and other little
programs, not written/coded by Repoman.

KILLAGA
-------

This is available from any AMINET site on the World Wide Web. What is it ?

Short: Disables AGA for stupid games. V2.0

KillAGA Allows you to run old, badly written, programs (mainly demos
and some games) from your A1200/4000 hard disk without having
to continually reboot and switch chip settings. On return from
the program, the system returns to full AGA state. Version
	   2.0, binary only.
	   Author: Jolyon Ralph

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

You should note, that this does not Fix jack shit. It does not even claim
to do so, all it claims to do, is to allow you to run programs without
having to switch chipsets, which any user with an ounce of brain, could
actually do by holding down both mouse buttons on bootup. Another point
to mention, is the fact that REPOMAN is not the programmer or Coder.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHDLOAD
-------

Need to know what this is ? Then why not try the Support site for it, on
the World Wide Web. The URL is as follows......

http://www.fh-zwickau.de/~jah/whdload/

So what the hell is it ? Well, lets see...........

WHDLoad, the AmigaOS friendly Harddisk-Install package. WHDLoad makes it
possible to install quite a lot demos and games, which were originally
designed to run only from floppy disks, to your harddisk.

It allows you yo install Games to your HD! it does not fix anything! It
again, does not claim to do so. So what is the latest on this ? And what
can we expect to see from the likes of REPOMAN ? Well, as snapped from the
WWW site.

the following demos and games are currently in work and may be
finished/released in some time

Abandoned Places, 80% complete
Absolute Inebriation (Virtual Dreams/Fairlight), 70% complete
Bloodwych, 50% complete
Celtic Legends, 25% complete
Deuteros, 10% complete
Elfmania, 20% complete
Great Giana Sisters, 20% complete
Hunter, 40% complete
Jumping Jackson, 95% complete
Lords of War, 10% complete-->
Robocop 3 (Ocean), 10% complete
Soccer Kid ECS, 50% complete
Supremacy, 10% complete

The thing is, that this program needs the Originals. As it states on the
web page, and I once again Quote!

First, all installs are written to work with an *ORIGINAL*. Don't try
to install with a version which is altered in any way, because it won't
work.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once again! The author is not REPOMAN! if you want to, you can contact the
real Author, via Email, at Bert.Jahn@fh-zwickau.de

JST
---
Here is another little tool, that lamers like to use! and then release under
their own banner or Group banner. Again, it too has a support site. Yup,
here is the URL:

http://www.ensica.fr/~jffabre/patches.html

a little taken from this web site...................

This page gathers some patches for games which originally:
did not work properly with enhanced amigas (<>A500/68000)
only worked with floppies (what a drag) or both :-)

Some patches have been written by me, others were found on aminet. Sometimes
both ;-)
I found some others in PD disks but I had to sort them because there's a lot
of installers for cracked stuff (a shame they sell the disks!).

The patches I wrote work up to 68060 powered Amigas without any alteration of
the system (no need to modify the caches setup, run DTack, or move the VBR).

I do my best to write as many patches/hd-installers as possible, and with the
best compatibility with all the OS/CPUs (even Kick 1.x)
Some people reported problems with my installers in conjunction with FastExec.
Sorry, you'll have to remove the patch or play from floppy 'till I figure out
how to do it.

About the installers present on the page which I have not written, I think
that they all work (I tested most of them) but maybe you'll have
to disable the 68060 caches (cpu060 ns nw nd nb) and maybe also the VBR or use
JST as a degrader as follows:

jst game EXECUTE (USERDATA="program arguments") (NTSC) (LEAVEVBR)
(LEAVECACHES) (NOQUIT)

And you can choose NTSC, NOCACHES, LEAVECACHES, LEAVEVBR, NOQUIT.
For those new games that do not degrade display properly, a JST game EXECUTE
LEAVEVBR LEAVECACHES will run the game with only degraded display. Caches and
VBR will not be affected.

For executables that autodetach (i.e. run in the background),
use the NOQUIT feature to avoid that the display is enhanced again.

In no case (unless specified) do you need to install your game again. Just
copy the .readme and executable files in the destination directory to upgrade.
Please read the .readme file specific to each loader. It contains important
information about the configuration of the loader.

Many installs which were not done by me need "WHDLoad by Bert Jahn" and
"The Patcher" by Harry. That's cool stuff.

For new installs by me you should get JOTDStartup (user package) by me.
JST Developper package here (JST included).
To read a complete documentation about HD loaders and how to do it, get my
"hddocs" (JST developper pack included).
(Not only reserved to programmers).
Unless otherwise specified, the JST and WHDLoad loaders need:

2MB of RAM for ECS games
about 2MB of fastmem (and obviousliy 2MB of chipmem) for AGA games (AGA
chipset still needed :)

Normal dos-loading fixed games (Atlantis, Traders...) will need no more mem
than originally specified by the game manual.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

So there you have it! All the tools mentioned above, are not written by any
REPOMAN clone. These tools are good at what they do, but they do not Fix
fuck all. They need the original Disks to work. Ironically, tools like JST
are really cracking the game. They are removing the copy protection, in order
to get them to install to Hard drive. ALL DOS games can be installed to your
Hard drive, they are DOS! and Amiga is run using DOS. A lot of fixes work,
if you just disable Caches and select old chip set in the Startup menu.
This as I have said, can be obtained by Holding both mouse buttons down,
whilst your reset/reboot your machine.

I love some of the old games! Now the fact is! that most have already been
fixed by some prominent members of the Amiga Community. N.O.M.A.D fixed
loads to work. After a break from the scene, Galahad returned and once
again, he graced us with some excellent Fixes. Yes, he actually took the
time to Fix these games! As an added bonus, he made them playable from
Hard disk. WHDLOAD and JST disable caches and stuff like that, they do not!
go through the code and fix Blitter problems, Sprite glitches etc..
They install the Game (ORiGiNAL) to your Hard Drive. Galahad, goes through
the code, and Fixes Blitter bugs etc.. Then he codes the Loaders to load
from your Hard Drive. Becuase he has done all this, the Game is no longer
is released working. If you have
an original, what is the point of downloading the whole fucking thing
again ? Why not, just go on the Aminet, or logon to one of the above sites,
and download the VERY SMALL PATCH ? A lot of the time, Galahad Fixes
and packs them up, and they are a lot smaller in size! Thats a fact!
I know which ones I will download! Do you ?

                      ZOLTRiX - 12 years on in 1998!
