EMAIL

In our last issue, we promised to take a look at some web-based email
services that are available to webmasters who want to offer their
visitors free, web-based email accounts. The companies mentionned
below are a partial listing of such email providers. We'll touch
on some of the others in an upcoming issue.

All of these companies offer free, web-based email accounts to end
users, but the costs to webmasters vary, ranging from free to pricey.

BigMailBox - < http://www.bigmailbox.com/ >
Free to webmasters and free to their visitors. Whats the catch? There
isn't one really. The service is available only to webmasters with
active domain names and BigMailBox takes 80% of the revenue generated
by banner impressions on the free email site. Small branding messages
are also inserted into the site and email messages.

Chek: - < http://chek.com/ >
Provides a powerful free email service to an array of impressive cos.
like the Kansas City Royals, Huston Astros, Budweiser, MicroWarehouse
and others. If you've cash in the five figure range sitting around,
this is the provider to go with.

CommTouch: < http://www.commtouch.com/ >
Another big player about to receive a cash infusion from Go2Net and
Vulcan Ventures to the tune of 20 million. Partners like Excite, Ziff
Davis, LookSmart, TalkCity, Fortune City, and BusinessWeek don't hurt.
CommTouch offers a number of different levels of service and pricing
options.

Coconut Software: < http://www.coconutsoftware.com/ >
Home of FetchMail. This company has style. Their contract is posted
online and the terms are reasonable. No cost to the webmaster and
revenue sharing terms are better than you might expect. Coconut also
sells standalone email service software. Coconut WebMail Pro for the
Linux platform allows you to run your own show. Pricing starts at $750.

EmuMail; < http://www.emumail.com/ >
Everything you need to instantly create a webmail system like Hotmail or
Yahoo mail on your own website. EmuMail can sell you software to setup
your own email service or handle it for you at a reasonable monthly
cost ($20/mo.). With a 30% revenue share from email advertising, you
are more likely to make money than lose it.

Everyone.net: < http://www.everyone.net/main/html/index.html >
If you own an active domain and your site is free of restricted
content, just fill out the signup form and you can offer free
web-based email within an hour. Free to the webmaster and free
to end users. A generous 50-50 split on advertising revenue.
